September 20th??!!

How in the world did that happen?  Boy, it's been a roller coaster of a week here at Teenage Quarters Casa de Diaz.  I tell you, it doesn't get any easier to raise twins.  It's been one of "those" weeks.  But, alas the weekend is approaching and the weather forecast is looking spectacular.

The highlight of my week arrived yesterday.  Wanna see?

I am SO excited.  I'd been holding off on getting a new Silhouette because my old one still works and because they're kind of pricey.  I'm glad I waited because I found it heavily discounted, with added goodies, and with a gift card.  So, I jumped on it.  My first project will involve fabric.  I plan on using some old bed linens I had purchased from Ikea forever ago.  I've always loved the patterns and colors but I now realize that they are a bit too feminine for a shared room.  My hubby never really complained but I owe him a more neutral sleeping space.  So I decided I'll use the linens as curtains and new pillow covers to add some color and femininity to my otherwise plain studio.

I found some really good ideas on etsy.  And, with my silhouette I can probably definitely create some cute pillow covers.  It turns out I have been sitting on a bit of a fabric goldmine with these linens.  I've had them stored away in a bin in the basement.  But after some research online I learned that they were designed by Cath Kidston.  I happen to love her whimsical, colorful style.  But I had no idea she was the designer of these cuties.  Now I appreciate them even more.

I know I'll have fabric left over so I also intend on making some anthropologie-esque dishtowels.  Here is one cute tute and here is another, using a silhouette I can make both!  EEK!  I'm very excited.  I hope my kids allow me enough peace and time to make this happen.  LOL!  I'll be sure to share the before and afters once I am done.

I also finally made my own granola this week.  I'm proud.  I tweaked two recipes.  Ina Garten's and Michael Bittman's.  I used coconut oil instead of canola oil but I skimped on the honey and sweetener. Since it was my first time I wanted to see how it was with just dried fruit and no added sweeteners.  It's yummy, but I do think it can use the honey or maple syrup.  But, then again, we can always add it on top when we serve it on yogurt or milk.  The kids and hubby are really enjoying it so I know it won't be my last time making it.  I will try something else next time.

And a little glimpse of what's blooming in my house:

I got these cuties at Trader Joe's but I have no idea what they're called and I wish I did so I can find more.  If you know, please advise.

This is a purple shamrock plant my mom gave me.  It's not a clover but it sure does look like one.  Best part is that it goes to "sleep" every night and reminds me of the "humble plant" that is wild all over Puerto Rico.  There we call in "mori-vivir".  I remember once I discovered it I would crawl all over my aunt's lawn looking for it in crevices and rock formations.  Ahh, good times.  It's the little things that make a childhood, right?

I have two new cards brewing and hope to share pics soon.  I hope you're having a wonderful week and that you're gearing up for Fall.  I need to work on being okay with that.

Keep it SWEET! ;)

P.S. If anyone is interested in purchasing my original Silhouette, please e-mail me (sweetspotcards@gmail.com).  It still works and I have the box and everything (except a cutting mat) that you will need.  I'm even OCD with that kinda stuff.  Eesh!  The cutting mats get very ugly so I already threw out the old ones I had.

  1. Oh my!!! I can feel another obsession coming on :o) I had never even heard of a Silhouette before, but having just read about it in the links, I think it looks amazing!!! Fabulous for srapbooking, present making, Filofax divider making (how cool would those dividers look?), doing stuff for the kids, making fabulous pictures for all those picture frames I have bought... the list goes on... Thank you, thank you, thank you :o)

    1. Wow, LJ! You really DO love Filofaxes! Isn't it cool to have a "thing" that you love?

As far as the Silhouette is concerned, I'll plead the fifth. I don't want any angry husbands coming back here because I introduced their wives to another obsessive thing. LOL. But, it does ROCK! I've been cutting non-stop since Friday. No let's see what I do with everything I've cut.
